Description
Rust Killer is a phosphoric acid based cleaner, containing detergents, solvents and a corrosion inhibitor, which is applied either by brush, immersion or spray for rust control and the removal of dirt, tarnish and other insoluble metallic deposits. It is carefully formulated to penetrate quickly, convert rust and form a stable chemical layer to act as a bond for paint and to control rusting. Especially effective prior to painting aluminum, galvanized iron and mild steel. Rust Killer may be used either in a wipe-on, wipe-off process, for conditioning metal and removing rust prior to painting or in a heated tank to remove light oils and heavier corrosion products. It has the C23 approval of the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries for use in meat, game, fish and poultry establishments. Also conforms to Boeing specification D6-17487 for acid brighteners and corrosion removers.
APPLICATIONS:
1. Rust removal.
2. Etching and cleaning of mild steel, new galvanized iron, aluminum and copper articles.
3. Ideal for cleaning stainless steel, e.g. (a) Removal of milk stone in milk tanks. (b) Removal of hard water soaps, lime and soil build-up in shower cabinets and urinals. (c) General cleaning and brightening of stainless steel.
4. Whitening and removing rust stains from concrete, bricks and tiles.
5. Removal of brazing flux from metals. 6. Rust Killer is effective for the cleaning and removal of light protective and drawing oils from panel steel and mild steel pipe and tube prior to painting or powder coating.
I
NSTRUCTIONS FOR USE
1. Brush-On, Wipe-Off Dilute Rust Killer with water (hot preferably for faster action) to the ratio of one 1 part Rust Killer to five 5 parts water. Use in a more concentrated form if necessary. Brush on the surface and allow to react. Rust removal may be assisted with a wire brush, steel wool or abrasive cloth. Rinse and wipe off with a damp rag. If Rust Killer dries before removal, re-wet with more product and wipe off.
2. Immersion Dilute with water to the ratio of one 1 part Rust Killer to nine 9 parts water. Immerse the article and allow to react. Rinse with water and dry immediately. This operation may be accelerated by heating the bath to a maximum of 70°C.
The tank should be constructed of stainless steel or plastic (PVC polyethylene, GRP) lined mild steel or wood. Rust Killer treated articles should ideally be rinsed in a hot solution (50-70°C) of one of the following:-
(a) 0.05% chromic acid (i.e. 50g/100 litres)
(b) 0.15% sodium or potassium chromate or dichromate (i.e. 150g/100 litres)
(c) 0.05% – 0.15% sodium nitrite (i.e. 50-150g/100 litres)
Correctly used, this treatment will control rust blush on drying.
